What is Valium? A General Description

Valium or Diazepam is the world’s most popular anti-anxiety medication. Under a class called Benzodiazepine, it is a CNS relaxant that can calm the body and the brain almost instantly. It is also one of the most versatile medications that can be used for Panic attacks, seizure, insomnia, and even pre-op sedative. Despite all its good attributes, there are some bad. Valium can be addictive and is a controlled substance. Therefore, information on this medication is vital. The more we know about it, the safer it will be to use.

How Does Valium Work?

Diazepam and all the other Benzodiazepine class work almost the same way. However, before we get into that, we have to explain a thing called Neurotransmitters. As we mentioned before, we’ll avoid as mane medical terms as possible and when we do, we’ll explain it simply. So here it is:

What are Neurotransmitters?

Our brain doesn’t have eyes to look all over our inner body. Instead, it uses chemicals and the nervous system to sense things. Neurotransmitters are chemicals (Hormones) that signal the brain of different things and situations. For example, if there is a cut somewhere in the body, a chemical called “Prostaglandin” flows around the cut. It constricts the blood vessels to that we don’t bleed out, and swells the area. Prostaglandin also signals the brain of the cut and only when the signal reaches the brain, we start to feel the pain. Upon receiving the signal, the brain gets to work to repair the damage.

So Prostaglandin is what causes the pain, but it also is necessary for the brain to know where the cut is and fix it. That’s how neurotransmitters work. After they have done their jobs, they naturally metabolize and get absorbed by the cells.

How Valium Works

There are two basic types of neurotransmitters- Exciters and Inhibitors. As you may have guessed, Exciters make the body and the brain active. One example is Adrenalin. On the other hand, Inhibitors relax the body. The example of an Inhibitor is Dopamine.

There is another powerful Inhibitor called GABA- Gamma Aminobutyric Acid. It is the chief inhibitor. That is it can relax the body and the brain really quickly and it can call other inhibitory neurotransmitters to aid if necessary.

Valium, once dissolved in the body, can latch on to the receptors of GABA, opens them up to increase the effectiveness of GABA. It instantly relaxes the brain and stops it from overworking. And when the brain stops overworking, the entire body experiences a cool and calm feeling. That is probably one of the reasons why people may get addicted to Valium. It feels super relaxing.

And thanks to the internet, people can now buy Valium online very easily and without any prescriptions. That’s all the more reasons to discuss the medication.
